Short Bio

I was born and grew up in Athens, Greece where I eventually studied Electrical and Computer Engineering in the National Technical University of Athens and obtained by degree in 1998. In 2000, after spending some time doing R&D in NTUA, I travelled to Denmark to join the Acoustics Engineering Program from the Technical University of Denmark, from which I graduated in 2002 with an MSc in engineering Acoustics. For my thesis, I specialized in interactive software for sound synthesis and its psychoacoustic optimization. In 2003, I enrolled in the PhD program of the Department of Computing Science at the University of Glasgow from where I graduated with a PhD in Human Computer Interaction in 2006. In Glasgow, I specialized on the evaluation of pointing to 3D audio targets. Nearly right after, I joined the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology in McGill University to work as post-doctoral researcher for a little more than 3 years. Together with my colleagues, I researched the psychoacoustics of sound localization in virtual spatial audio systems as well as the design of the gesture control of sound spatialization. Since September 2010, I joined the Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics in Graz, Austria as a Senior Research Scientist.

Research Interests

My research interests are within human computer interaction, with particular focus on applied perceptual studies inspired by psychoacoustics and motor control theory, with applications in the design and implementation of interactive spatial audio systems. More details on this to come soon. For a quick overview please browse my Publications page.
