Investigation on the Influence of various Head-Torso Arrangements on the Head-Related-Transfer-Functions.

Markus Guldenschuh

Head related transfer functions (HRTF) describe the path from an acoustical source to the ears. It can be gained within the relation of two measurements. The first will give the reference sound pressure in the virtual middle of the head, the second has to be done in both ears. Therefore we will use a normalized artificial head of Brüel & Kjaer.

The measurements shall be done for different angles of azimuth and elevation but the difference to other studies will be that the torso and the head will be turned separately.

During the first project period the measurement equipment has to be installed and configured, including the operational programs in PD (to turn the artificial head, activate the speakers and to save the data). In the second, based on the measured data a functional coherence between HRTFs for different source angles and head-torso arrangements should be found using MATLAB. Finally the measurement procedure, the assumed models and the obtained results will be documented.
