Entwurf und Durchführung eines Hörversuches zur Ortung und Lokalisation von Phantomschallquellen bei Elevation

Michael Perkmann

Scientific literature provides reports about a number of listening tests and experimental arrangements concerning localisation or rather lateralisation of sources. Through conducting these tests, it is possible to determine under which conditions and how exactly an imaginary source (phantom source) created by the overlay of at least two sound fields, rendered by loudspeakers, can be localized and which characteristics can be assigned to this perception.

As the IEM CUBE allows not only the realisation of lateral but also of vertical excursions of sources, it is of eminent interest how elevated phantom sources can be localised. In the scope of this project, some introductory and outlining literature research concerning the localisatioin of phantom sources with elevation shall be conducted. Furthermore, a listening test should be designed and carried out.
