Ansteuerungsfilter für den Ikosaederlautsprecher
Paper (636 KB pdf)
Since the beginning of 2006 the IEM works on a new spherical audio reproduction system which is formed as a regular polyhedron with 20 equilateral triangles as faces. Every face of this hollow icosahedron is equipped with an individually driven loudspeaker. Employing suitable processing of the driving signals, the loudspeaker array can accomplish various acoustic radiation patterns. This recent development provides new perspectives on the reproduction of sounds, taken from acoustics measurements on musical instruments, room acoustic measurements, etc... (spherical acoustic holography / wave field synthesis).
The main issue considered in this project is the implementation of driving filters for the Icosahedral Louspeaker Array in pure data. According to an existent design (block diagram), this implementation allows for the acoustic synthesis of several radiation patterns and combinations thereof. Suitable filter coefficients can be determined by a ready-made MATLAB script, and given Laser-Doppler vibrometry measurement data.
