Aufnahme- und Wiedergabeverfahren für Surround Sound

Markus Nussbaumer

Diplomarbeit (10.500 KB pdf), November 2000.

This thesis deals with different recording- and reproduction-methods for surround sound. There is an overview concerning spatial hearing, ambisonics and commercially used formats for distribution and criteria for reproduction for multichannel material, whereas special attention is given to the 3/2 (respectively 5.1) - stereo - format and related microphone- techniques. Possibilities of the format are explained and instructions for the practical usage are given. Recordings have been made with the microphone techniques OCT (optimized cardioid triangle, developed by Theile) and MMA (multichannel microphone array, developed by Williams), which are explained in detail. Parts of these recordings have been taken into a listening test, and the two techniques have been examined concerning various parameters. The results and the analysis of the listening test are documented.
