Smart Sound Generation for Mobil Phones

A new feature within mobile phones of 3th Generation will be "Advanced Audio Functionality". Among other things the reproduction of polyphonic ringing tones is of great interest.

To generate polyphonic ringing tones a synthesis unit is needed, which is convenient for mobile phones in respect of memory usage and computational costs.

The aim of this diploma thesis is to investigate three synthesis techniques (FM-, Sampling-, Digital Waveguide-Synthesis), which are suited for this demands. These synthesis techniques are implemented in Matlab and the reached sound quality of a synthetically created piano sound is compared to that of a real piano.
