Development of a programming-library for modelling the auditory periphery using Matlab

Wolfgang Reichart

This work combines four appreciated models of the peripheral auditory system. These are "LUTEar", developed at the TU-Loughtborough, Leichestershire, GB, the "Passive Ear-Model" by Lyon, the "Cochlea-Model" by Seneff, and the "Filterbank-Model" by Patterson-Holdsworth. Additional aid is given by some analysis modules and signal generating pro-grams which are related to psychoacoustic measurements. Existing implementations of these models are using different computer platforms. Therefore, it was necessary to make them compareable by using a single platform. Matlab has been chosen because it is a powerful tool for numeric computation and visualisation. The modular structure of this library allows to compare single processing steps of the models and it is open for further extensions.
