Engineering of planar small speaker arrays
Sebatian Blamberger
Small speaker arrays provide us with the opportunity to create high spatial resolution acoustic environments. At IEM, we want to develop a modular prototype planar speaker array consisting of a large number of speakers.
To provide low power consumption and good efficiency, Class D Amplifiers are going to be used. This relatively new technology is found in mobile devices nowadays.
The task is to design and build this speaker array and develop some basic software for controlling the speaker array from MAX/MSP or PD, characterizing the sound output and implement one sound ways to improve output by controlling speaker clusters independently.
Tasks:
- Speaker array Amplification and Construction
- Implementation of Cluster Control
- Informal experimentation with sound output
