Acoustic Source positioning by Time Reversal Mirrors
Diploma thesis (6.800KB pdf)
“Time Reversal Mirror” is the name of a particularly in medical science approved method to focus sound energy at certain points. Since the wave equation contains time just as a derivative of second order, p(r,t) as well as p(r,-t) describe a solution. Thus the wave equation can be considered as invariant against time reversal. This diploma thesis should show the potentials and limits of the Time Reversal Mirror in respect to the use in room acoustics. Especially the effects of speaker positions, timevariant changes and the quality of localisation should be evaluated with acoustical measuring methods. A realtime application should finally be implemented in PD to position sound sources by means of the Time Reversal Mirror.
