Methods for separation of tonal noise of plant and machinery

A v H

Noise of plant and machinery consists of parts of different sound sources. Those parts are transmitted to and emitted by the outer surface of the plant or machinery via airborne and solid-borne sound.

The intention of this paper is to find an adequate operation first to separate the tonal parts of noise and second to allocate them to their sources. The verification of this method found is made by testing with the noise of a compressor of a refrigerator, which has intensive tonal parts.

First of all different existing methods are introduced and compared with each other. In a second step some of those methods are implemented in Matlab and tested with the above-mentioned noise to decide if they are proper for this special application. Based on these results, a new method is developed theoretically and finally tested by Matlab simulation to assure its plausibility and to detect possible weaknesses.
