Developing an Acoustic Camera for the analysis of the noise emission of powertrain components

Uwe Neugebauer

The Diploma thesis is blocked till 23.5.2014.

For the analysis of vehicle components that are assigned to the powertrain, full testing is required on an appropriate test bench. By using an acoustic camera, which was developed in the context of this work, the frequency- and rotational speed-dependent sound radiation of the measured objects has been analyzed. This measuring instrument should be optimized for the special case of the analysis of powertrain components and should allow a localization of the sound-emitting regions on the object. Special attention was paid to the rotational speed and order dependence of the sound events.

The development of this opto-acoustic measurement system included the dimensioning, construction and combination of suitable hardware, as well as the implementation of appropriate software modules. Essentially, a two-dimensional microphone array was designed, which, combined with a camera and special software for signal analysis and data evaluation, covers the desired range of functions.

This thesis was developed in cooperation with Magna Powertrain AG & Co KG in Lannach, A
